The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.
Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair that is tangled as well as large debris and clean them as needed. Some models can also automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
